Senior Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in related fields (e.g., developmental, cell or molecular biology). Two (2) years of full-time experience with advanced research related/laboratory activities. Experience in cell culture, cell isolation techniques (e.g., density gradient centrifugation, immunomagnetic cell separation, microfluidic cell sorting), flow cytometry, mRNA / miRNA isolation and preparation for sequencing and real-time PCR. Experience with scientific software for data/statistical analysis. Due to grant stipulations, the selected candidate must currently reside outside of New York State and be willing to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in related fields (e.g., developmental, cell or molecular biology). Five (5) years of full-time directly related experience with advanced research related / laboratory activities in the isolation and biochemical / genetic analysis of human and mouse blood cells. Experience in basic protein biochemistry, including protein purification, Western blotting, ELISA. Working knowledge of bioinformatics and manipulation of large datasets.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Senior Research Support Specialist will assist the Principal Investigator, Dr. Diacovo, in the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbent will independently and/or with colleagues conduct basic science / translational research and ensure that all studies are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University, sponsor policies and state and federal guidelines.
Duties:
Isolate components of human and mouse blood and perform metabolomic and genetic analysis before and after storage under blood bank conditions
Perform in vitro and in vivo functional analyses on cellular components of blood as a function of developmental stage and storage conditions.
To analyze independently and/or in conjunction with bioinformatics personnel to analyze data sets.
Other duties as assigned by Principal Investigator as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
